Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on July 12, 1971, to a seat vacated by Ronald N. Davies. Confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 1971, and received commission on July 29, 1971. Served as chief judge, 1971-1985. Assumed senior status on December 31, 1985. Service terminated on April 22, 2004, due to death.
