U.S. Circuit Courts for the Districts of Ohio: Legislative History

The Judiciary Act of 1801 established six regional circuit courts to replace the circuit courts organized by judicial districts. The act combined the territory Northwest of the Ohio and the Indiana territory into the District of Ohio and placed the district under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Circuit Court for the Sixth Circuit.

Congress repealed the Judiciary Act of 1801 and restored the organization of the judiciary in effect before 1801.
February 24, 1807

Congress established the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Ohio and assigned the district to the Seventh Circuit.
February 10, 1855

This act divided Ohio into the northern and southern judicial districts and created a U.S. circuit court for each district.
July 23, 1866
14 Stat. 209
Congress reorganized the circuits and assigned the District of Ohio to the Sixth Circuit.
