U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Vermont: Legislative History

Congress established the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Vermont and assigned the district to the Eastern Circuit. The act became effective upon the admission of the State of Vermont on March 4, 1791.
February 13, 1801

The Judiciary Act of 1801 established six regional circuit courts to replace the circuit courts organized by judicial districts. The Act placed the District of Vermont under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Circuit Court for the Second Circuit.
March 8, 1802

Congress repealed the Judiciary Act of 1801 and restored the organization of the judiciary in effect before 1801, thereby re-establishing the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Vermont.

Judiciary Act of 1802 assigned the District of Vermont to the Second Circuit.
