The U.S. District Court for the District of East Tennessee met here until 1880; the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee met here from 1880 until 1933; the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of East Tennessee met here until 1880; the U.S. Circuit Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee met here from 1880 until that court was abolished in 1912.
Now the East Tennessee Historical Center, which houses the Knox County Archives.
