Nominated by Harry S Truman on June 18, 1946, to a new seat authorized by 60 Stat. 260. Confirmed by the Senate on June 29, 1946, and received commission on July 9, 1946. Served as chief judge, 1961-1970. Assumed senior status on July 31, 1970. Service terminated on October 18, 1983, due to death.
