Nominated by Jimmy Carter on April 30, 1979, to a seat vacated by William Homer Thornberry. Confirmed by the Senate on July 12, 1979, and received commission on July 13, 1979. Assumed senior status on July 7, 1982. Service terminated on September 14, 2004, due to death.
