Nominated by John F. Kennedy on April 4, 1963, to a new seat authorized by 75 Stat. 80. Confirmed by the Senate on April 24, 1963, and received commission on April 26, 1963. Served as chief judge, 1966-1977. Assumed senior status on June 30, 1978. Service terminated on May 15, 1996, due to death.
