Nominated by John F. Kennedy on June 12, 1962, to a new seat authorized by 75 Stat. 80. Confirmed by the Senate on June 29, 1962, and received commission on July 2, 1962. Served as chief judge, 1963-1980. Assumed senior status on October 29, 1982. Service terminated on January 7, 1996, due to death.
