Nominated by Harry S Truman on January 8, 1947, to a seat vacated by James C. Wilson. Confirmed by the Senate on July 8, 1947, and received commission on July 9, 1947. Served as chief judge, 1959-1959. Assumed senior status on October 1, 1966. Service terminated on January 19, 1967, due to death.
