Nominated by Harry S Truman on January 13, 1949, to a seat vacated by David E. Henderson. Confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1949, and received commission on February 2, 1949. Served as chief judge, 1961-1962, 1966-1968. Assumed senior status on June 24, 1968. Service terminated on January 30, 1978, due to death.
