Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on April 15, 1964, to a seat vacated by Chase A. Clark. Confirmed by the Senate on April 30, 1964, and received commission on May 1, 1964. Served as chief judge, 1971-1981. Assumed senior status on July 1, 1981. Service terminated on December 25, 1985, due to death.
