Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 26, 1936, to a seat vacated by Halsted L. Ritter. Confirmed by the Senate on May 30, 1936, and received commission on June 1, 1936. Served as chief judge, 1950-1955. Assumed senior status on July 1, 1955. Service terminated on November 14, 1969, due to death.
