Policy Statement

The Federal Judicial Center is committed to providing equal employment opportunity and a workplace free of discrimination based on any personal characteristic not relevant to job performance. Among characteristics irrelevant to job performance are race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, and whether one is married or has children. Job-related decisions or conditions based on characteristics irrelevant to job performance are discrimination and are forbidden by the Center.

Discrimination based on factors unrelated to job performance is harmful and disrespectful to individuals, undermines working relationships, and compromises the integrity of the Center. The Center does not tolerate such discrimination, and no employee should practice it. Each member of the staff should treat all other members with respect, and all staff should work together to provide an environment free of discrimination. The Center makes every effort to promote such respect and to eliminate all barriers to equal opportunity.
