Received a recess appointment from Dwight D. Eisenhower on December 9, 1953, to a new seat authorized by 65 Stat. 710; nominated to the same position by Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 11, 1954. Confirmed by the Senate on February 9, 1954, and received commission on February 10, 1954. Served as chief judge, 1954-1965. Service terminated on February 28, 1965, due to death.
