APPENDICES TO DOCUMENT STIPULATION
@ January 14, 1997
The appendices to the document stipulation, reflecting the defendants' responses to various questions affecting admissibility of over 50,000 documents produced by them to the document depository, are collected in a database file named ALLDEFTS.DBF. The database file is quite large--requiring over 36,000 KB of disk storage (before any extra requirements for program or application files). It is expected that there will be some updates to this database, particularly in reflecting additions to listings from McGhan and more complete information from Porex.
A compressed self-extracting version of the database file, named ALLDEFTS.EXE, can be downloaded from the Internet. When downloaded and expanded, the database file, which was prepared using FoxPro, should be usable in (or importable into) a variety of other programs such as late versions of dBase, Clipper, Lotus 1-2-3, Access, Excel, WordPerfect, Paradox, Word, and QuattroPro. (When importing, you should be able to identify the expanded file as a FoxPro, dBase, or Clipper file.)
However, because of the storage space requirement and because even the downloadable compressed version is large (1.7 MB) and will require 15 minutes or more of downloading time even with a fast modem exchange rate, the court recommends that only those courts or counsel with a need (i.e., because of upcoming trials) go through the downloading and expansion process.
Before deciding whether to download the compressed file (or if you decide to download the file), you may want to obtain, save, and print a copy of the explanation of the fields in the database file. To view this file, click DOCSTIP.HTM.
If you decide to download the compressed ALLDEFTS.EXE file, you may do so by clicking ALLDEFTS.EXE. Note: you can expand the file by typing ALLDEFTS as a DOS commmand or by using RUN ALLDEFTS from Windows.
Users who have FoxPro installed on their computers may also want to download a special application file named DOCSTIP.FXP, which provides a convenient way for searching, viewing, printing, and copying all or selected records from the database. To download this file, click DOCSTIP.FXP. After downloading, copy file to same subdirectory as ALLDEFTS.EXE. To run, enter following commands while in FoxPro: SET DEFAULT TO [path for ALLDEFTS.EXE]; DO DOCSTIP.
As an alternative to downloading as a database file, the Court has provided a method to download as a series of compressed files that, when expanded, will be in WordPerfect 5.1+ format. For further information, click appx.htm.
Note to courts who are unable to download the file(s) from the Internet, or to those with Windows who need a program to manage the database file: this Court can, on a limited basis, provide the necessary files on 3.5" diskettes or a CD-Rom disk.
